Common Reasons People Seek Trauma Counseling
Struggling with PTSD
For many individuals, past trauma resurfaces through intrusive thoughts, flashbacks, or nightmares. Trauma counseling provides techniques to manage these symptoms and heal old wounds so that you’re no longer hijacked from the past.
Adverse Childhood and/or Adult Experiences
Unresolved trauma from childhood or as an adult oftentimes cultivates current consequences. These consequences might be substance abuse, ruminating thoughts, suicidal ideation, poor communication with our loved one’s, a sense of impending doom, impulsivity, hyper-agititation, to name a few. Counseling helps individuals process these experiences and develop healthier coping mechanisms.
Overcoming Anxiety, Depression, and Emotional Distress
Trauma often contributes to mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, and emotional dysregulation. Therapy helps clients understand these connections and implement strategies to improve their emotional well-being.
Rebuilding Trust and Healthy Relationships
Trauma can make it difficult to trust others and form secure relationships. Counseling offers tools to navigate social interactions, set boundaries, and build meaningful connections with others.
Seeking Healing from Physical or Emotional Abuse
Survivors of physical, emotional, or sexual abuse often need specialized support to process their experiences and regain confidence. Trauma counseling provides a safe space to work through these emotions and begin the healing process.
Regaining a Sense of Control and Self-Worth
Trauma can leave individuals feeling powerless and disconnected from themselves. Therapy empowers clients to reclaim their sense of self, build resilience, and create a hopeful future.

Why Choose Recovery Hill for Trauma Counseling?
Recovery Hill is truly unique. Many programs promise “personalized treatment,” but most couldn’t tell you what they discussed with you the week prior. The truth is most “programs” are run by corporate heads that are financially focused. They have clinicians who have too many clients, are burned-out, can’t take care of themselves, and show up for a paycheck.
Recovery Hill is one guy, me (Kenny), dedicated to keeping treatment individual-based by intentionally keeping a small caseload. Though this is a poor business choice (financially), I am able to hyper-focus and bring high levels of attunement to each client. If you are one of the clients of Recovery Hill, you will have DIRECT access to me personally; not some automated answering service or bot. You can call me, text me, and come in to see me weekly. This is REAL treatment.
Additionally, I practice what I preach. You will never be asked to do something that I don’t already personally know will work, and that is evidenced-based.
We will utilize an integrative approach, incorporating:
- Brainspotting: a somatic therapy, similar to EMDR, that unpacks deeply-rooted trauma, fear, and psychological causes for emotional dysregulation. It’s been called a “miracle treatment” for many, to quickly and safely process through the past. Brainspotting is a more fluid somatic therapy that lends itself to blend and integrate other modalities.
- Mindfulness and Relaxation Techniques to support emotional regulation and reduce anxiety.
- Internal Family Systems (IFS): this integrates well with Brainspotting, allowing clients the ability to connect to overwhelming internal opinions, the “internal critic,” the “Inner child,” and more.

About Recovery Hill Counseling
Recovery Hill is a place where clients do things they previously thought were impossible. Client’s build resilience. They rebuild trust. They become someone they’re proud to be.
As a recovering addict with 18 years of sobriety, this work is more than a financial means to survive. For me, simply being clean wasn’t enough. It wasn’t thriving. I needed to push beyond traditional methods of sobriety, and grow in all of the areas I wanted to avoid.
Being of service to my clients is personal, not professional. I know that’s something they tell you in college, of what not to do. I think they’re disconnected from what people need. People require attunement, not just sympathy. People require accountability, not just a friendly head-nod. With Recovery Hill, you will receive the level of care you deserve!
